Na alweer 15 jaar woonachtig te zijn in Amsterdam, heeft Yvonne weer een schat aan mooie foto's van Amsterdam opgebouwd. Voor haar Jaarkalender van 2025 die zij 'De Schoonheid van Amsterdam' noemt, heeft zij een greep gedaan uit haar mooiste verzameling foto's. Wat dit extra bijzonder maakt is dat Amsterdam in 2025 alweer 750 jaar bestaat. En dat wordt gevierd!
Met deze fotokalender beoogt ze niet alleen de uiterlijke schoonheid van Amsterdam te benadrukken, maar ook de prachtige, ruimdenkende en vrijheidslievende geest van deze hoofdstad. Een stad waar van oudsher mensen uit alle windstreken en van de meest uiteenlopende aard gevestigd zijn, en die aantrekkelijk is voor zowel conservatieven als progressieven, voor burgerlijke types en alternatievelingen, voor kartrekkers en volgzame zielen, voor optimisten en doemdenkers, voor kunstenaars, artiesten, expats, echte Amsterdammers en wannabe's. Amsterdam ademt de nieuwe Verlichting, Amsterdam duwt je voort en roept je terug en soms zelfs een halt toe, en duwt je daarna onverbiddelijk weer verder. Het is een constante dynamiek van nieuwe grenzen verkennen en het oude niet willen loslaten, een samenleving vol 'daredevils' en angsthazen, vernieuwende initiatieven en herhaling van het verleden.
Bij elke foto staat een Bijbeltekst met een belangrijke boodschap. Voor sommige quotes kun je het beste mediteren als je de diepere betekenis ervan wilt begrijpen, sommige andere spreken voor zich.
Yvonne wil met deze kalender een verbinding leggen tussen religie, de LHBTIQ+ gemeenschap en Amsterdam. Een standpunt vanuit een breder perspectief dat nog niet door iedereen wordt toegejuicht (de kalender is bij een kerk in het centrum verboden, een andere kerk vond de foto op de voorkant 'ongepast'), maar waarvan velen de echte waarde zullen inzien. Want als je goed nadenkt, zijn alle mensen Gods Kinderen. En Amsterdam laat vrijwel vanaf het begin ook al Gods Kinderen toe. Onder haar bewoners bevinden zich alle nationaliteiten van de wereld, in alle soorten en maten. En met ruim 350 miljoen LHBTIQ+ leden verspreid over de aardbol, kan niet meer ontkend worden dat deze gemeenschap enorm veel kleur en vrolijkheid verspreidt over de wereld, en zeker ook hier in Amsterdam. Het is een zegen om in een stad als Amsterdam te leven, het is een zegen om in vrijheid te kunnen leven en het is een zegen om te genieten van de schoonheid van Amsterdam, in haar volle glorie!
Ik verkoop mijn kalenders voor 15 euro per stuk, incl. 21% BTW / excl. 4,25 euro verzendkosten. Voor ongeveer 6 รก 7 kalenders (pakket tot 3 kg) zijn de verzendkosten 5,95 binnen Nederland. For centuries Amsterdam has had a magnetic pull on all sorts of people from all over the world, which is attractive for conservatists as well as progressive minds, for the bourgeois types and eccentric people, for initiators as well as dociles, for optimists as well as doomsayers, for artists, performers, expats, original Amsterdam residents and wannabe's. Amsterdam respires the Age of the New Enlightenment, Amsterdam forces you to go forward and then pulls you back and sometimes even makes you stop, and then unrelentingly pushes you forward again. Amsterdam facilitates continuous dynamics of exploring new borders and not letting go of the old ways, accommodating daredevils and crybabies, innovative projects and replay of the past.
Next to every picture there is a quote from the Bible with an important message. For better understanding it's best to meditate on the deeper meaning behind each quote, others need no explanation.
Yvonne aims to make a loving connection between religion, the LHBTIQ+ community and Amsterdam. A statement from a broader perspective that is not yet supported by everyone (the calendar is forbidden by a church in the center, another church thought the picture on the front page 'inappropriate'), but of which the value will prove itself in time to many people. Because if you think clearly, you realize that all people are Children of God. And Amsterdam has welcomed all Children of God since the beginning. Amongst her residents you will find people of all nationalities from all over the world, all shapes and sizes. And with more than 350 million LHBTIQ+ members spread out over the globe, nobody can deny the beautiful colours and joy this community sprinkles all over the world, and especially here in Amsterdam. It is a blessing to live in a city like Amsterdam, it is a blessing to live in freedom and it is a blessing to enjoy the beauty of Amsterdam, in all her glory!

De foto's van beide mini-kalenders zijn door mij (Yvonne Liew-On) gemaakt in 2008 en 2009 en zijn een greep uit de collectie van het fotoproject dat ik “De Schoonheid van Rotterdam” noem. Er zitten zowel foto's van bekende als van onbekende objecten en locaties bij, zoals bijvoorbeeld de Erasmusbrug, maar ook het standbeeldje in de galerij van het stadhuis van Rotterdam en andere zaken die niet gelijk in het oog vallen, zoals “Jewish Boy – Loods 24”, het herdenkingsmonument aan de Stieltjesstraat. Als je erlangs fietst, merk je het muurtje ook amper op, maar het is een Rotterdams icoon, neergezet op de oorspronkelijke plek waar vandaan veel mensen zijn gedeporteerd door de Duitsers. Ongeveer 15.000, waarvan er slechts 1.100 zijn teruggekeerd ... En zo zijn er allerlei zaken die door veel Rotterdammers in het dagelijkse leven onopgemerkt blijven.
The pictures of both mini calendars are made by me (Yvonne Liew-On) in 2008 and 2009 and are part of a collection from a bigger photo project which I named "The Beauty of Rotterdam". Inside there are pictures from wellknown and unknown objects and locations, as for instance the Erasmus bridge, but also the statue at the galery of the city hall of Rotterdam and other objects that stay easily undetected, like the war monument “Jewish Boy pilot 24 “ at the Stieltjesstraat. When you're on your bike, you hardly notice this small old wall, but this is a Rotterdam icon, placed at the location where originally lots of people where deported by the German occupiers in World War II. About 15.000 people, and only 1.100 have returned ... And so there are many things in Rotterdam which stay undetected in daily life.

De mini-kalenders zijn schattig en superhandzaam, want ze zijn vanwege het kleine formaat makkelijk ergens in huis of op kantoor op te hangen. Ik heb er twaalf jaar over gedaan om deze bijzondere foto's te maken (en natuurlijk nog veel meer). Mijn volgende project wordt "De Schoonheid van Amsterdam". The mini calendars are lovely and neat, because of their small size you can easily put them somewhere in your house or at the office. It took me twelve years to make these special pictures (and many more of course). My next project will be "The Beauty of Amsterdam". With my new digital SLR camera which my best friend and stand up comedian Eric Dikkers just gave me, it will be a new interesting adventure!
